Pledge to Stop IPL going Abroad

The BCCI announced that they are planning to go ahead and conduct the IPL games outside India claiming their decision is based on Indian Government Official's refusal to meet the security demands forgetting the fact that Government's priority is to provide security to the upcoming Elections.

We, the general public, have the highest responsibility in holding BCCI accountable for their unpatriotic move and should decide how we can bring them to their knees. The Indian Government clearly mentioned the reason behind their decisions and asked BCCI to postpone the IPL games after the elections. Anyone who is not insane would accept the fact that the Elections are the highest priority for the Nation and Definitely not any entertainments such as IPL.

Why are they (BCCI) demanding the security from the Government when they in fact are not accountable for their actions and their collections amounts to millions and millions? So far, BCCI have not made it public on their income irrespective of several calls to do so. When they claim and run the organization as Private why can’t they employ private security for their games. Can the government provide security details to all the private companies and spend tax payer’s money towards the welfare of every private organization?

Instead, BCCI went too far in demanding our Government to accept their agenda by announcing they will conduct the Indian Premier League games outside India and continue to rake their fortunes which is very unfortunate.

In the event of BCCI conducting the IPL outside India, as a the proud citizen of India, we have the responsibility to stop this atrocity and the height of selfishness of BCCI by pledging ourselves -

  • Not to watch the IPL games in television thus reducing the television ratings.
  • Not to buy the products of companies who sponsor the events with their advertisements.
  • Never buy a ticket to watch the IPL games at any stadium outside India.
  • To demand the BCCI to rename IPL to something appropriate.
  • Not to buy the products of companies promoted by any player who plays the IPL games outside India.

I do not think I have to list how this pledging will affect BCCI's decision in organizing IPL outside India.

  1. I agree... It's silly. Move the games to after the elections. India's summer is anyway closer after them.

South Africa too has elections, and security will be a concern in SA too. My guess is it is that the costs are cheaper, and the real money isn't in the tickets, but in the television rights. So they can get the money whether it's in India or not.

Will the Indian players be able to vote in their elections when they are overseas?

  2. Same guy as above...

The problem is that most of the money made by the IPL is not made in India, but from television rights and advertising in the Non-Indian countries, so you would somehow have to get the people in England, Australia, SA, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, etc. (even the USA) to not watch the IPL.

  3. I disagree. Moving IPL was not possible because of the FTP of ICC.The option left was no IPL or IPL outside India and i think Modi did the right thing. The IPL wont be making any money this year. Still they are ready to host the tournament.

  4. As they say about Indians, When one person (BCCI/IPL/Modi) is trying to do something constructive, there will be 100 more Indians (YOU, Govt. of India & Anti-IPL) trying to pull him down and stop him from doing it.

Its plainly because we can digest the fact that somebody else is more successful, somebody else has pulled off something that we couldn't and somebody else is saying YES, when the whole world is saying NO.

    Its just us. Indian personified.

This whole deal of Security was all an eye wash. Everybody in the Govt. knew that IPL was the Cash cow and they wanted to wash their hands in running water.

Unfortunately, how many stomach can IPL feed. It had to move on and good that it did.
Indians will miss watching it in the stadiums, but they will enjoy it on TV. The quality of feed will be great!! hopefully HD and am sure the matches will be more competetive becos 20/20 has evolved a lot.

So just chill and drop this pledge crap. Enjoy good things of life.

Relative to elections: Go and check whether your name is there in the list or not. Eitherway somebody else is going to vote for us and win.
What is the need to vote when & where the democracy is abused?

  5. Raj.. you are too good man. Absolutely right. Just chill and drop this pledge crap. What is the need to vote when & where the democracy is abused? Wonderful. Funny and right. Do not now how many times the author voted and worried about democracy. IPL has to continue whatever it takes for it to. It gave a new definition to Indian cricket and sport. Many eyes turned toward India. It was Aus and SA in the past who used to dominate and now its India ready to do anything with its economic power (I mean BCCI).

Every eligible Indian voter must realize that India will spend 1000 crores for elections equivalent to conducting polls in Europe, the United States, Canada and Australia all at once. Which are doing their best in sports. I wonder how many years will it take for India to produce a Michael Phelps. But they have a Tendulkar playing. let him. If no recession for India why for Indian cricket?

Moreover, its between Pawar and Sonia not between Modi and Chidamabram. You must understand that it is a political pressure on pawar and modi but not a security problem. And since it is a private league, Indian govt. denied security. They know that very well.
All congress ruled states immediately have a problem after center denied it. They need money for election campaign and wants Pawar to back from PM candidate or some bull.... and thats it. No IPL in India.

So, my fellow concerned Indian, instead of pledging for IPL not to go abroad, encourage it. It will surely increase swiss bank balances of Modi & co. but will show India's strength.
Let the good things happen yaar. Will the govt stop polls if half the population of India pledge? They dont care. they want polls for themselves. not for us. Were you ever asked if you are ready for polls?

  6. So, finally after much dilly-dallying and deliberation, a liturgical drama that unfolded in front of our TV screens, IPL has been moved out of India. In this article we analyse the various aspects of this whole episode, that affects all Indians from Shahrukh Khan in Mumbai to Panchrangi Halwai living next door. We will first analyse if moving IPL out of India was the only option available and subsequently we will analyse why IPL was moved out India. Was there a conspiracy to move it out of India? If it was a conspiracy, who all were involved? Who all are to blame? When was it actually hatched? What should be done now?
